American English language extraordinaire
Cynthia helps people with their English. People say they enjoy working with her. She knows this because she asks them, and they say so.
Cynthia is an American originally from the state of New Hampshire. She has lived in Sweden since 2000 and has worked full-time as a professional general and business English trainer and consultant for a number of language companies in the Stockholm area.
Before moving to Stockholm, she earned some expensive U.S. university degrees and worked in the medical field for five years. She is certified in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (CTEFL) and Teaching Business English (CTBE). She speaks French fluently due to being brought up in a bilingual household (her mother is from Quebec, Canada) and is also proficient in Swedish.
In Cynthia’s 19 years of experience, she has found the balance between celebrating Sweden’s impressive English skills and pointing out areas in need of improvement. She navigates the fine line between a Swede’s involuntary loyalty to Jantelagen on one side and an obsession with perfection on the other. She encourages people to throw both of these concepts out the window and "bjuda på dig själv". Since she speaks svengelska herself, she does this with a great deal of humor. Our mistakes are not the end of the world. In fact, they are what give us a real opportunity to truly connect and understand each other.
Cynthia’s areas of expertise are common writing mistakes, Swenglish, the "game" of Social English and Presentation Techniques. She also conducts workshops in improvisation with a focus on English role-play, team building and business creativity.
